The center of Florence is divided into neighborhoods, which are named for the churches that dominate the skyline.

The neighborhood of Santo Spirito lures the visitor to explore the quiet streets where artisans have been producing frames, jewelry, shoes and furniture for centuries. Santo Spirito is the Oltrarno or di la d’Arno, which refers to the fact that it is on “the other side” of the river Arno.

If you choose to stay in Oltrarno, you can easily slip into the rhythm and lifestyle as lived by residents frequenting the markets, bakeries and cafes. The Oltrarno is often called the area where the real Florentines live.
